FIFA rejects Nigeria’s appeal over DR Congo’s player eligibility, upholding their World Cup qualifier status.
FIFA has denied Nigeria’s appeal to disqualify the Democratic Republic of Congo from the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, rejecting claims that DR Congo used ineligible players due to dual nationalities.
The decision follows Nigeria’s 4-3 penalty loss to DR Congo after a 1-1 draw in extra time in the African playoff final in Rabat.
Nigeria had filed the petition in December, alleging irregular passport issuances, but FIFA’s disciplinary committee upheld DR Congo’s eligibility.
The NFF has since launched an appeal, with the outcome set to be determined before the intercontinental playoff in Mexico, where DR Congo will represent Africa in the final qualification match.
