FEMA extends hurricane housing aid in NC through Sept. 30, 2026, for over 150 families.
FEMA has extended temporary housing and rental assistance for Hurricane Helene survivors in Western North Carolina through September 30, 2026, allowing over 150 households to remain in FEMA-provided trailers and mobile homes on a month-to-month basis.
The extension, requested by state officials in February, gives families more time to repair homes, finalize insurance claims, and secure permanent housing.
Rent will begin after March 29, initially set at 75% of HUD’s Fair Market Rate for August and September, with full rates applying afterward.
FEMA has provided 243 units and distributed $23.6 million in rental assistance to over 6,100 households.
The move comes amid a federal government shutdown affecting FEMA’s parent agency, delaying broader recovery funding.
