Delhi High Court halts trial of Bina Modi and Lalit Bhasin in 2025 assault case due to questionable evidence.
The Delhi High Court has stayed trial proceedings against Bina Modi and Lalit Bhasin in a 2025 assault case filed by her son, Samir Modi, following challenges to summons issued by the Saket Court.
The case stems from an alleged incident during a board meeting at Godfrey Phillips India’s Jasola office, where Samir Modi claimed he was assaulted by his mother’s security officer, resulting in a broken finger.
Initially, Delhi Police found insufficient evidence to charge Bina Modi and Lalit Bhasin, but the trial court proceeded after finding prima facie evidence of their involvement.
The High Court, citing inconsistencies in the injury claim—such as Samir Modi signing documents during the meeting—questioned the investigation and paused proceedings, ordering the police to submit a status report and all parties to file written summaries.
The next hearing is set for July 29, 2026.
