Canada held its first National AI & Culture Summit from March 15 to 17, 2026, convening 300 leaders from government, tech, academia, and the cultural sector to shape a national approach to AI’s impact on creativity and identity.
The event, co-hosted by the federal government and the Banff Centre, focused on ethical AI use, innovation, and protecting cultural industries.
In response, the government announced the creation of an AI and Culture Advisory Council, co-led by Ministers Marc Miller and Evan Solomon, to guide policy.
It also reaffirmed a $300,000 two-year commitment to support best practices in the cultural sector and emphasized collaboration with international bodies like UNESCO, upholding the 2005 Convention on Cultural Diversity.
