Binghamton University will switch dining providers from Sodexo to Chartwells in June 2026 after student and faculty feedback on food quality, safety, and costs.
Binghamton University will replace Sodexo with Chartwells as its dining services provider starting June 1, 2026, following a two-year review and student-led pressure over food quality, safety, costs, and dietary options.
The change comes after 1,700 student surveys, focus groups, and input from faculty, with Chartwells selected among three finalists.
Nearly 700 Sodexo workers will be laid off, though some may reapply under new terms.
Chartwells pledged improvements in sustainability, waste reduction, and dietary accommodations, while students continue pushing for stronger union protections, allergen labeling, and unmet promises on meal swipe access and religious meal options.
The university says dining hall appearances will stay largely the same initially, with future changes based on campus feedback.
