Allina Health in Minnesota has agreed to merge with California’s Sutter Health, forming a larger nonprofit system set to invest over $2 billion in Minnesota and western Wisconsin by 2026.
Allina will become the Upper Midwest Division under Sutter’s umbrella, retaining its name, brand, and Minneapolis headquarters.
The merger aims to expand care access, improve affordability, and boost innovation through AI and digital tools, with Lisa Shannon remaining CEO of Allina and Warner Thomas leading the combined system.
The deal, pending regulatory approval, is expected to enhance patient scheduling, recruit physicians, and advance preventive care and clinical research.
