A Utah woman was convicted of murdering her husband with fentanyl to gain life insurance and ease financial stress.
Kouri Richins, a 35-year-old Utah mother, was convicted on all five counts, including aggravated murder, in the 2022 fentanyl-related death of her husband, Eric Richins. Prosecutors said she poisoned him with illicit fentanyl—purchased after asking for the “Michael Jackson drug”—to eliminate financial strain from her failing real estate business and gain life insurance money, citing a forged $100,000 policy and a failed attempt on Valentine’s Day. The autopsy found fentanyl levels five times the lethal amount, confirmed as illicit. She is scheduled to be sentenced on May 13.
