Hryhorii Sryotenko, a Ukrainian war veteran, faces sentencing on March 26, 2026, after pleading guilty to attempting to murder his former partner, Viktoriia Pavlenko, in January 2024.
Pavlenko, who fled Ukraine in 2022, described being stabbed 15 times at their shared home in County Kerry, Ireland, after waking to find Sryotenko, driven by a delusional belief she was unfaithful, pinning her down and threatening her life.
The attack ended when their son intervened.
Sryotenko, who served in Ukraine’s military during the 2014 Crimean conflict and had no prior criminal record, cooperated with authorities, accepted responsibility, and expressed remorse.
His defense cited mental health struggles and his service to his country.
Judge David Keane remanded him in custody until sentencing.
