UK faces backlash for £570M Palantir deals amid Gaza war ties and political scrutiny.
The UK government faces mounting criticism for awarding Palantir £570 million in contracts despite the US firm’s ties to Israel’s military operations in Gaza and the West Bank, including a £240 million defence deal and £330 million health project.
The scrutiny intensified after former ambassador Peter Mandelson’s arrest over Epstein links, with concerns over his connections to Palantir and a secretive February 2025 meeting between Mandelson and Prime Minister Keir Starmer at the company’s Washington HQ.
Palantir, co-founded by Peter Thiel and led by Alex Karp, has expanded in Israel since 2015, collaborating with Unit 8200 and using data from intercepted communications and satellite imagery to support military targeting.
Critics allege its tools enable mass surveillance and accelerate attacks, contributing to civilian casualties, while Karp has blamed Hamas for deaths in Gaza.
Opposition MPs and human rights advocates have called the contracts ethically indefensible and demanded a full review.
