The Supreme Court will decide by late June whether to allow the Trump administration to end TPS for 356,000 Haitians and 6,000 Syrians, with arguments set for April.
The U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to expedite review of the Trump administration’s effort to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for about 356,000 Haitians and 6,000 Syrians, temporarily blocking deportation while allowing lower court rulings to remain in place.
The court will hear arguments in April and is expected to issue a decision by late June.
The administration seeks to terminate TPS for 13 countries, arguing conditions have improved, but lower courts have blocked the move, citing ongoing crises in Haiti and Syria.
The justices will determine whether TPS decisions are subject to judicial review, whether beneficiaries have valid legal claims, and whether equal protection rights were violated.
This marks the first time the court has not immediately approved a TPS termination, unlike previous rulings on Venezuela.
