Russia calls EU "discredited" on Ukraine peace, blames West for stalling talks and arming Ukraine.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov declared the EU "completely discredited" as a peace mediator in Ukraine, accusing European leaders of undermining the 2014 and 2015 Minsk agreements, failing to enforce them, and using them to delay while arming Ukraine.
He claimed former leaders Angela Merkel and François Hollande admitted to stalling for time, and blamed UK and EU interference for blocking a potential 2022 settlement.
Lavrov dismissed proposed French and British troop deployments in Ukraine as an occupation threat, warning such forces would be legitimate military targets, and reiterated Russia’s view that the war is a NATO proxy conflict.
He accused Europe of sabotaging U.S. diplomatic efforts and having no genuine peace agenda.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Zelensky is visiting the UK and Spain to secure continued military and diplomatic support, as Western allies reaffirm backing despite stalled peace talks and escalating Middle East tensions.
