Ohio introduces Hailey’s Law to combat online predator risks after a teen’s death, mandating age verification, parental consent, and new safety measures.
Ohio lawmakers have introduced Hailey’s Law, SB 379, in response to the death of 17-year-old Hailey Buzbee, who was allegedly lured online through gaming platforms before her body was found in Wayne National Forest.
The bill mandates age verification and parental consent for minors using online games and social media, creates a statewide security camera registry, requires grooming awareness education in schools, and establishes a “Pink Alert” system for missing persons cases not meeting Amber Alert criteria.
The legislation follows a prior similar law blocked by a judge over constitutional concerns.
