Nigeria appoints Taiwo Oyedele as Finance Minister, focusing on tax reform and fiscal sustainability effective Jan. 1, 2026.
President Bola Tinubu has sworn in Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance, praising his role in overhauling Nigeria’s tax system and emphasizing the need for fiscal sustainability and economic growth.
Oyedele, a seasoned economist and former head of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, will focus on revenue mobilization, efficient spending, and implementing tax reforms that took effect January 1, 2026, including zero income tax for earners below N800,000 and exemptions for small businesses.
The appointment follows Senate confirmation and replaces Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, now in the Ministry of Budget and National Planning.
