New Zealand doctors use AI scribe Heidi to cut patient documentation time, with plans for a local server by 2026.
New Zealand emergency doctors are using an AI scribe tool called Heidi, which saves up to 10 minutes per patient by transcribing and summarizing clinician-patient conversations.
Rolled out nationally after a successful trial at Hawke’s Bay Hospital, Heidi reduces documentation time, especially for slower typists, and has been well-received, with most clinicians welcoming it despite some needing to edit AI-generated inaccuracies.
The tool is secure, using end-to-end encryption, two-factor authentication, and storing data in a de-identified, isolated cloud environment in Australia.
It meets Health NZ’s strict privacy standards and is being improved for better accuracy and workflow integration.
A New Zealand-based server is planned for 2026.
