A new Maternity and Neonatal Taskforce, led by Health Secretary Wes Streeting, has launched to improve NHS maternity care in England, following concerns over safety and disparities.
Comprising 17 members including affected families and experts, it will act on findings from Baroness Amos’ upcoming review and other inquiries.
The government has allocated £25 million in immediate funding—£5 million for best practice care bundles targeting leading causes of maternal death, £9 million to upgrade bereavement facilities in 40 trusts, and £11 million to strengthen triage systems.
The taskforce will begin work immediately, focusing on equity, safety, and rebuilding public trust in maternity services.
