A new customized commuter bus service linking Beijing and Xiong'an New Area launched on Monday, expanding regional connectivity with three main routes covering 120 kilometers in up to two hours.
The service, based on data from over 8,500 trial passengers, connects key transport hubs and relocated enterprises, using dedicated lanes and bypassing checkpoints for efficiency.
One-way fares are 50 yuan ($7.2), and passengers book via WeChat, boarding with facial recognition or ID.
On its first full day, it saw 75 morning bookings and 45% average seat occupancy—15% above expectations.
The network now includes 12 main routes and 58 branch lines, having transported over 5.3 million passengers across 163,000 trips.
It supports the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region’s goal of a one- to 1.5-hour travel circle, with future routes planned to Xuanwu Hospital and Xiong'an’s university district.
