Nairobi ODM chairpersons endorse Winnie Odinga for deputy leader ahead of March 27 convention.
On March 17, 2026, Nairobi County’s 17 ODM constituency chairpersons endorsed Winnie Odinga, an East African Legislative Assembly member, as their candidate for deputy party leader ahead of the March 27 National Delegates Convention.
The move, led by Makadara MP George Aladwa, marks a shift from her earlier opposition to party leadership and aims to unify the party amid internal divisions.
The endorsement comes as the ODM seeks to strengthen Nairobi’s representation following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Winnie Odinga was also backed as Nairobi’s top delegate, a role previously held by her father.
The proposed addition of a fourth deputy leader would require a constitutional amendment or special resolution at the NDC, which will also review the contested removal of former Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna.
