Raju, who represented Australian national Andrew Salvatore in a drug case, was found guilty by a trial court of conspiring to alter evidence, including a garment used as proof, and sentenced to three years in prison, though the sentence was suspended.
The High Court upheld the conviction, ruling that political aspirations do not justify suspending the sentence.
His appeal remains pending, but he is now barred from running in Thiruvananthapuram Central, creating a political crisis for the Left Democratic Front.
