Canadian bass angler Jeff Gustafson, who won the 2023 Bassmaster Classic on the Tennessee River, is using his absence from the 2026 Classic as motivation to improve. Though he attended the event’s expo in Knoxville, Tenn., he focused on preparing for upcoming Elite Series events on the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway and Arkansas River, targeting smallmouth bass during the spawn. Gustafson, known for his consistent moping technique and specific jig setup, is off to a stronger start in 2026 than in 2025, which he says has boosted his confidence. He remains committed to being on the water, not at expos, and aims to return to top-tier competition with improved consistency and preparation.
