A Japanese group plans to build an ammonia bunkering vessel in Singapore to support low-carbon shipping, backed by a government grant.
A Japanese consortium including Sumitomo Corporation, K LINE, and NYK Bulkship (Asia) has signed a memorandum of understanding to explore building an ammonia bunkering vessel in Singapore, supporting the development of a low-carbon fuel supply chain.
The project, led by Sumitomo as part of a Keppel-led consortium selected in October 2025, will conduct a FEED study backed by a grant from Singapore’s Maritime Innovation and Technology Fund.
The effort aligns with Singapore’s goals to advance ammonia as a marine fuel and strengthen its role in the global energy transition.
