Speaking in London, Harris contrasted Buckley’s achievements with his criticism of mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor, whom he said represents the "very worst of Irish society," citing a 2024 civil court ruling in Dublin that found McGregor liable in a rape case brought by Nikita Hand.
Harris emphasized that St Patrick’s Day should celebrate values like inclusion and compassion, highlighting Buckley’s impact, while noting the U.S. has authority over entry decisions despite reports of McGregor attending events in Washington, D.C.
He also congratulated Richard Baneham on winning his third Oscar for visual effects on Avatar: Fire And Ash.
