The Grateful Dead’s 1974 Winterland concerts, featuring Mickey Hart’s return, are released on vinyl for the first time, including 44 songs and rare photos.
The soundtrack to the Grateful Dead’s 1977 concert film, captured during their five-night 1974 run at San Francisco’s Winterland Ballroom, is being released for the first time on vinyl as a 10-LP set.
Pressed on colored audiophile vinyl and limited to 3,000 numbered copies, the release includes all 44 songs from the original 2005 CD, featuring iconic tracks like “Playing in the Band,” “Scarlet Begonias,” and “Dark Star.” The recordings, which mark the return of drummer Mickey Hart, are presented with a 42-page book of rare photos and an essay by historian Nicholas G. Meriwether.
The release, a collaboration between Mondo and Rhino Records, is the first official vinyl availability since 2005 and is praised by archivist David Lemieux as a vital preservation of the band’s legacy.
