Calgary allocates $33M to 16 Indigenous-led projects, creating up to 379 affordable homes and tackling housing inequity.
Calgary has committed $33 million to support 16 Indigenous-led housing initiatives, aiming to build up to 379 affordable homes and address disproportionate housing insecurity among Indigenous people, who make up a significant portion of the city’s homeless population despite being a small share of its residents.
The funding, drawn from a one-time capital allocation, supports 24 projects across neighborhoods like Crescent Heights and Erin Woods, covering up to 40% of eligible capital costs.
It includes $20.2 million for five projects building 147 units, $10.6 million for four projects to purchase land for 232 homes, and 15 grants of $150,000 each for planning and community engagement.
The initiative, part of the city’s Home is Here strategy, emphasizes self-determination and cultural healing through community-led solutions.
Applications closed in October 2025.
