AeroVironment buys ESAero for $200M to boost drone and air mobility tech.
AeroVironment has acquired ESAero, a San Luis Obispo-based drone developer, in a $200 million deal to expand its unmanned systems and advanced air mobility capabilities.
The transaction, structured with $160 million in stock and the rest in cash, brings ESAero’s expertise in electric and hybrid propulsion, rapid prototyping, and certified manufacturing into AeroVironment’s Precision Strike and Defense Systems group.
The acquisition, expected to be accretive to adjusted EBITDA within the first year, marks AeroVironment’s second major purchase in under a year, following its 2025 acquisition of BlueHalo.
ESAero will operate as a subsidiary, enhancing AeroVironment’s ability to transition designs to production for defense and commercial markets.
