A 25-year-old man is charged with murder in the Sept. 29, 2025, shooting of Bill Maangi, a Gisborne father, with a second man charged as an accomplice.

A 25-year-old man has been charged with murder in the September 29, 2025, shooting death of Bill Maangi, a Gisborne father of four, at a residence on Ormond Road. A 28-year-old man faces a charge of party to murder. Both are also charged with aggravated robbery, firearm offenses, and drug-related crimes. The suspects are due in Gisborne District Court on March 27, 2026. Police said public tips were key to the investigation, which began after four men were arrested in late 2025. Detective Inspector Marty James acknowledged the family’s ongoing pain and said holding suspects accountable may bring some closure. The case remains under active investigation.
