A report released on March 16, 2026, reveals that 47% of West Bengal’s 291 sitting MLAs have declared criminal cases against themselves, with 37% facing serious charges like murder, attempted murder, and crimes against women.
The data, based on election affidavits from 2021 and bypolls, shows 52% of MLAs are crorepatis with average assets of ₹2.82 crore.
The BJP has a higher percentage of MLAs with cases (66%) compared to the Trinamool Congress (41%).
