The Washington Capitals signed 19-year-old defenseman Cole Hutson to a three-year deal after he led NCAA defensemen in scoring and won gold with Team USA at the 2025 World Juniors.
The Washington Capitals have signed 19-year-old defenseman Cole Hutson, their 43rd overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, to a three-year entry-level contract with an average annual value of $975,000.
Hutson, who played two seasons at Boston University, recorded 80 points (24 goals, 56 assists) in 74 games, leading the NCAA in scoring among defensemen and earning Hockey East First Team All-Star honors each year.
He helped Team USA win gold at the 2025 World Junior Championships, finishing as the tournament’s top-scoring defenseman with 11 points.
The Capitals announced the signing after Boston University’s playoff exit, and Hutson is expected to make his NHL debut soon, potentially against the Ottawa Senators.
