Vancouver Council delays 25-storey hotel plan due to community concerns, seeking more affordable housing.
Vancouver City Council has sent a rezoning application for a 25-storey hotel at 2030 Barclay Street back to staff for further review, following community opposition.
The project would replace a 1959 hotel with a tower offering 183 serviced and 65 short-term rental rooms.
Council directed staff to explore adding market and below-market rental units while maintaining the hotel room count plus one, in line with the city’s 2025 hotel policy.
Concerns were raised about the project’s scale and mid-block location west of Denman Street.
Developer Marcon said it will work with city staff on a revised proposal, following earlier changes from a 29-storey to a 25-storey plan.
A public hearing is expected as part of the updated review.
