The Supreme Court refused to hear journalist Ravi Nair’s appeal over a defamation case linked to a 2024 article on Adani Group, directing him to the Gujarat High Court.
The Supreme Court on March 16, 2026, declined to hear journalist Ravi Nair’s appeal challenging a summons from Gujarat’s Crime Branch over a 2024 Washington Post article alleging a $3.9 billion investment plan involving the Adani Group and India’s Life Insurance Corporation.
The Court, led by Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta, dismissed the plea as withdrawn and directed Nair to seek relief from the Gujarat High Court, noting he had not exhausted lower court remedies.
The summons followed a complaint by Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd.
The decision comes after a separate Gujarat court convicted Nair in a criminal defamation case, sentencing him to one year in prison and a ₹5,000 fine for online posts deemed defamatory and lacking sufficient evidence to support claims of corruption and political favoritism.
The Court did not rule on the merits of the case or comment on the allegations.
