Shinedown’s new single “Searchlight” has reached No. 1 on the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, marking their 22nd leader and extending their record for most No. 1s in the chart’s history. Inspired by frontman Brent Smith’s conversations with his son as he turned 18, the song reflects on life’s uncertainties and changing purpose. Originally different in direction, it was reimagined with an acoustic, country-influenced sound after Smith shared a demo with bassist Eric Bass. Despite the stylistic shift, Smith confirms the band has no plans for a full country album, and “Searchlight” is the only track of its style on their upcoming May 29 release, which also includes “Dance, Kid, Dance,” “Three Six Five,” and “Killing Fields.” The band continues to aim for broad appeal, staying true to their ethos of being “for everyone.”
