Memphis is keeping men's basketball coach Penny Hardaway for the 2026-27 season despite a 13-19 record, the team’s first losing season since 1999-2000 and its fewest wins since 1998-99.
The Tigers, who lost in the American Athletic Conference tournament, have not had a losing record since 1999-2000.
Hardaway, a former All-American and NBA All-Star, has a 175-87 record since 2018-19, including three NCAA Tournament appearances and an NIT title.
He was named Coach of the Year in 2025 and remains under contract through April 2028, with a nearly $6 million buyout.
The program plans to restructure the coaching staff and hire a general manager.
