The Lincoln Museum seeks three artists to create paintings inspired by a historic Mennonite chair for an October exhibit.
The Lincoln Museum and Cultural Centre is seeking three artists for its "If Chairs Could Talk" project, inspired by A.J.
Casson’s 1953 painting featuring a Mennonite chair.
Artists will select an object from the museum’s collection of over 10,000 items, create a painting based on it, and submit by March 31.
Selected artists receive $1,500 and will complete works by mid-August for display in the "Keep in Touch" exhibit starting October 10.
The exhibit will feature Casson’s painting, the original chair, and new artworks, with reproductions available as postcards.
Nine artists had applied by March 11.
The museum received the painting and chair in 1988 from collector William Edwin Troup, a friend of Casson, who donated over 1,000 items from his collection.
