Irish council seized a large home built without permission, paving the way for demolition after years of legal battles.
Meath County Council has taken control of a large home in Bohermeen, County Meath, following a High Court order on March 16, 2026, after the property was built without planning permission nearly two decades ago.
The owners, Chris and Rose Murray, were denied permission in 2006 to build a house, but proceeded to construct a 5,880 sq m residence far exceeding allowed size.
Despite multiple court challenges, including a 2017 Supreme Court ruling upholding demolition orders, the couple failed to vacate.
Their final appeal, based on alleged land sterilization agreements, was dismissed as frivolous in 2025.
The council, supported by police, now holds the property, with demolition expected to follow.
