India’s election commission reshuffles top West Bengal officials ahead of April 2026 state polls.
The Election Commission of India has ordered the immediate transfer of top West Bengal officials ahead of the 2026 state assembly elections, scheduled for April 23 and 29.
Dushyant Nariala (IAS-1993) was appointed Chief Secretary, replacing Nandini Chakraborty, while Sanghamitra Ghosh (IAS-1997) was named Principal Secretary, Home and Hill Affairs.
The moves, effective immediately, follow the ECI’s review of poll preparedness and require compliance by March 16.
Transferred officers are barred from election-related roles until polling ends.
The ECI also announced election dates for Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Assam, and Puducherry, with vote counting on May 4.
