The Indian Coast Guard held its first joint training in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands from March 9 to 14, 2026, combining OPRC Level-I oil spill response with a debut course on hazardous and noxious substances (HNS) spill management.
The week-long exercise, hosted at Sri Vijaya Puram, involved Coast Guard personnel, Andaman and Nicobar Command units, and other maritime stakeholders, aiming to boost readiness for marine environmental emergencies.
The training supports a new Crisis Management Plan for HNS incidents in the ecologically sensitive region and reflects growing efforts to address rising maritime traffic and environmental risks in the Indian Ocean.
