Brandon Rainey, accused in Chloe Mitchell's 2023 Ballymena murder, faces trial delay due to inability to secure new lawyer.
Brandon John Rainey, 29, accused of murdering 21-year-old Chloe Mitchell in Ballymena in June 2023, told a Northern Ireland court he cannot secure new legal representation after his previous lawyers withdrew, citing professional conflict.
He said a law firm declined his case and a solicitor in Lurgan expressed concern over time constraints, while prison rules limit his legal contacts.
The trial, now set for April 13, was delayed to allow more time to find counsel.
Judge Madam Justice McBride acknowledged the challenges and scheduled a review for March 20, stressing Rainey’s right to legal representation.
Mitchell’s body was found eight days after she was last seen on CCTV.
