Australia launches 11 MW of portable, renewable-powered AI data centres to use wasted clean energy and boost tech investment.
Australia has launched its first network of portable, renewable-powered AI data centres, deploying 11 megawatts of modular, truck-transportable units across New South Wales, Western Australia, and the National Energy Market.
Designed to run on 100% renewable energy with zero Scope 2 emissions, the units use waterless cooling and are installed near wind, solar, and battery sites to consume curtailed clean energy—estimated at 7.2 TWh in 2025 and projected to exceed 10 TWh in 2026—avoiding grid congestion.
The initiative, led by WinDC and Armada, aims to convert wasted energy into commercial value, attract global tech investment, and build sovereign AI infrastructure in Australia, with plans to shift production to the country as deployment scales.
