Actress Judy Pace, a pioneering Black performer and advocate, has died at 83.
Actress Judy Pace, a trailblazing Black performer known for her roles in *Peyton Place*, *Brian’s Song*, and Blaxploitation films like *Cotton Comes to Harlem*, has died at 83.
Born in Los Angeles in 1942, she broke barriers as the first Black woman under contract at Columbia Studios, the first Black bachelorette on *The Dating Game*, and the first spokesmodel for Fashion Fair Cosmetics.
She earned an NAACP Image Award for her role as Pat Walters on *The Young Lawyers* and was celebrated for challenging Hollywood’s limited portrayals of Black women.
Pace, who also co-founded the Kwanza Foundation and advocated for Black representation in film, passed peacefully in Marina del Rey while visiting family.
She is survived by her daughters, grandson, and son-in-law.
The family requests donations to the NAACP in her honor.
