A 16-year-old California Area High School student died Friday night in an electric dirt bike crash near Highland Drive behind Adamson Stadium around 8:30 p.m. Police found the bike crashed into a fallen tree, with the teen unresponsive over a small embankment and his helmet nearby.
He was taken to multiple hospitals, including Allegheny General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:30 a.m. Saturday.
Police called it a “freak accident” with no signs of foul play.
The school district announced crisis support services, including counselors and a therapy dog team, would be available Monday.
Superintendent Dr. Laura Jacob expressed condolences and emphasized community unity in mourning.
