A UK man was jailed for 15 months for hiding nearly £100,000 in a van fridge, linked to drugs, after admitting he knew the money was illegal.
A 46-year-old van driver, Qamran Iqbal, was sentenced to 15 months in jail after police found nearly £100,000 in Scottish banknotes hidden in a fridge inside his van on the M6 near Birmingham on February 5, 2026.
Officers stopped the vehicle after noticing suspicious behavior, and Iqbal, a medical courier on licence, admitted knowing the money was from an illegal source but claimed he was acting under instructions, contradicting his initial story of returning from a friend’s visit in Scotland.
Prosecutors linked the cash to drug activity.
Iqbal, already recalled to prison for a prior 12-and-a-half-year sentence, will serve the new term concurrently, meaning no additional time beyond his existing recall.
His defense cited remorse and a desire to rebuild his life as a father of three.
