The unemployment rate in Ontario’s Grey-Bruce region rose to 5.1% in February, matching a 0.2 percentage point increase in the provincial rate, according to the Four County Labour Market Planning Board.
Employment fell by 3,300 jobs, including 2,100 full-time and 1,300 part-time positions, while the labour force declined by 3,200 and the population grew by 300.
The labour force participation rate dropped to 62.3%.
The service-producing sector added 900 jobs, driven by growth in transportation, finance, retail trade, and health care.
The goods-producing sector lost 4,200 jobs, primarily due to declines in agriculture and construction, though manufacturing and utilities saw modest gains.
Officials attributed the downturn to seasonal trends and weak market confidence.
