Ohio honors three fallen Air National Guard airmen killed in a non-combat plane crash in Iraq.
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has ordered U.S. and Ohio flags to fly at half-staff in honor of three Ohio Air National Guard airmen killed in a KC-135 refueling plane crash during Operation Epic Fury in Iraq.
The crash, which occurred in friendly airspace and was not caused by hostile or friendly fire, resulted in six fatalities.
Tyler Simmons, a Columbus native, has been confirmed as one of the deceased.
The other two airmen’s identities are pending official confirmation.
Flags will remain at half-staff until sunset on each funeral day.
The gesture honors their service and sacrifice during active military operations.
