Iran may pursue back-channel talks despite U.S.-Israel strikes, Turkey says.
Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said on March 14, 2026, that while formal U.S.-Iran talks have stalled, Iran remains open to back-channel diplomacy despite feeling betrayed by recent U.S. and Israeli strikes.
Speaking in an exclusive interview, Fidan emphasized Turkey’s neutral stance amid rising regional tensions, noting that three missiles believed to originate from Iran were intercepted over Turkish territory, though Tehran denies involvement.
Turkey, a NATO member with U.S. military bases, has avoided military retaliation, relying on NATO defenses and diplomatic efforts.
Fidan cited Iran’s leadership transition following the death of its former Supreme Leader, with power now held by the Revolutionary Guards, and said Iran has refused to discuss its missile program or regional proxy groups.
He reiterated Turkey’s push for de-escalation and self-reliance in defense production.
Irán podría proseguir las conversaciones por canales ocultos a pesar de los ataques de Estados Unidos e Israel, dice Turquía.
