India’s 2026-27 budget omits funding for the Chabahar Port, a strategic project to access Central Asia, sparking concern over declining commitment amid rising Chinese influence.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh criticized the 2026-27 Union Budget for allocating no funds to the Chabahar Port project, calling it a strategic setback for India’s Central Asian outreach.

Ramesh accused the current government of rebranding the initiative without maintaining financial or policy continuity, raising concerns about India’s long-term commitment amid growing Chinese influence through Gwadar Port and the prior closure of India’s air base in Tajikistan.
