India schedules April 23, 2026, by-elections in Maharashtra's Rahuri and Baramati after two MLAs died.
The Election Commission of India has announced by-elections for Maharashtra’s Rahuri and Baramati assembly seats on April 23, 2026, with results to be declared on May 4.
The polls follow the deaths of sitting MLAs Shivaji Kardile (BJP) and Ajit Pawar (NCP), with Sunetra Pawar, Ajit’s wife and current Deputy Chief Minister, set to contest Baramati, likely unopposed.
Voting will use Electronic Voting Machines with VVPAT, and voters can use EPIC or other ID documents.
The Model Code of Conduct is in effect, and candidates must disclose criminal records three times during the campaign.
The process concludes by May 6.
