John Alford, a former British actor known for roles in Grange Hill and London’s Burning, died in prison on March 13, 2026, at HMP Bure in Norfolk, two months after being sentenced to eight and a half years for sexually assaulting two teenage girls, aged 14 and 15, in 2022.
He was convicted of multiple offences, including sexual activity with a child and assault by penetration, after prosecutors said he gave the girls alcohol before the attacks.
Alford, who used the name John Alford publicly but was tried under his real name, John Shannon, denied knowing their ages.
The victims described lasting trauma, including self-harm and nightmares.
His death, discovered in his cell, is under investigation by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman, as required for all custody deaths.
