Ethiopian runner Fotyen Tesfay won the 2026 Zurich Barcelona Marathon in 2:10:53, the second-fastest women’s marathon time ever and the fastest debut at the distance.
She set a new course and national record, finishing ahead of Kenya’s Joan Jepkosgei Kiplimo and Ethiopia’s Zeineba Yimer.
Despite strong winds hindering her final stretch, Tesfay fell just short of the world record of 2:09:56, set by Ruth Chepngetich, who is banned until 2028.
Tesfay, a former half-marathon standout and Olympic 10,000m finalist, called her performance "fantastic" and plans to challenge the record again.
