A Delhi POCSO court on March 15, 2026, ordered the release of a 17-year-old juvenile, known as a Child in Conflict with Law, from protective custody after he served two months of a six-month sentence for a two-wheeler theft.
The court, led by Special Judge Somitra Kumar, cited the youth’s HIV/AIDS diagnosis, the need for parental emotional support, and the fulfillment of the rehabilitation purpose.
The juvenile was released under a personal bond of Rs 5,000 and a surety from his mother, with mandates for six months of psychological counseling and ongoing medical care.
The decision followed legal challenges over procedural flaws in the original notice and aligned with the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015.
