Canada funds $4.4M for new Calgary Japanese cultural centre with sustainable, traditional design.
The federal government has awarded $4.4 million to the Calgary Japanese Community Association to build a new cultural centre, replacing aging facilities with a sustainable, culturally inspired building.
The project, part of the Green and Inclusive Community Buildings program, will feature traditional Japanese design elements, energy-efficient features, and spaces for cultural, educational, and social programs.
Construction is set to begin later this year and take about two years.
The centre will include a Japanese garden, event halls, a kitchen, and a tatami room, supporting the Nikkei community and promoting inclusivity.
Additional funding is still being raised.
