Martel Devante Gilliam, a 22-year-old federal correctional officer at the Beaumont Federal Correctional Complex, was sentenced to 10 years in prison on March 11, 2026, for smuggling drugs into the facility.
He pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine after a drug-sniffing dog alerted to contraband in his vehicle on March 8, 2024.
Authorities found 125 grams of methamphetamine, 28 grams of cocaine, 459 grams of synthetic marijuana, tobacco and marijuana packaging, $5,700 in cash, and a firearm during a search.
Gilliam, identified as a source of illegal drugs within the prison, was prosecuted as part of Operation Take Back America, a Justice Department initiative targeting cartels and violent crime.
